Radio 24 (the radio station of Il Sole 24 ORE) has dedicated an episode of its much celebrated “Musica Maestro” to the Teatro San Cassiano with Paul Atkin as its guest. The programme is hosted by two much-loved friends and great supporters of our project: Carla Moreni and Armando Torno.

“Musica maestro is a programme dedicated to classical music presenting performances, evets, artists, recordings, and books. It covers everything that happens in this world, interviewing young talents and established personalities, researchers and performers.

“In this episode of Musica Maestro, Carla Moreni and Armando Torno meet Paul Atkin, entrepreneur, musicologist and founder of the project for the reconstruction of the Teatro San Cassiano, the world's first public opera house, founded in Venice in 1637. Atkin passionately recounts the goal of bringing back to life a historic venue where a very special cultural experience can be enjoyed: Baroque performances by candlelight, mobile stage sets, stage machinery, and even historical dinners, to which he adds his focus on musical quality and his intention to also make it a centre for research into Baroque music. An ambitious project, similar to the model of the Globe Theatre in London. Paul also invites the Italian authorities to collaborate as well.”

Paul thanks both Carla and Armando for their kindness and generosity in turning his ramblings into a coherent and, we hope, engaging programme.

It is also worth noting that the music played was chosen by Paul.

The first aria is “Delizie, contente” from Giasone (Teatro San Cassiano, 1649) by Giacinto Andrea Cicognini (libretto) Francesco Cavalli (composer). The recording is by René Jacobs and his Concerto Vocale and is sung by another great friend of Teatro San Cassiano, Michael Chance CBE. Among many things, Michael is the Artistic Director of The Grange Festival.

The second aria “Fingi d'aver un Cor”, sung by Vasilisa Berzhanskaya, comes from a new recording by our own Artistic Director, Andrea Marcon and his La Cetra Barockorchester of Arsilda, Regina Di Ponto (Teatro Sant’Angelo, 1716) by Domenico Lalli (libretto) and Antonio Vivaldi (composer).
